The incident took place around 10:20 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, in Hampden County when Holyoke Police officers responded to a report of road rage involving two area men in a silver Infiniti who reportedly showed a gun during the altercation.

When police responded to the area they spotted a car matching the description and attempted to stop it on Westerfield Road, but the driver sped away, police said.

The driver, identified as Pedro Perez, age 32, of West Springfield, lost control of the car on South Street.

When officers ordered Perez out of the vehicle, he refused and was forcibly removed and "actively resisted arrest and fought with officers," police said.

As Pedro was removed from the vehicle the passenger, later identified as Angel Franco, age 42, of Holyoke, fled in the car further down South Street and crashed.

Franco was removed from the car and he too actively resisted arrest.

"Both parties threatened officers' lives," police said.

 A firearm was recovered

Both were arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Resist arrest
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Negligent operation of a vehicle
  • Fail to stop for police
  • Possession of a firearm in a felony

Perez was also charged with the threat to commit a crime and driving with a suspended license.
